Liverpool is yet to make any major moves in the January transfer window, but it already looks as though some big-name targets are slipping out of the Reds’ grasp.

Arne Slot has played down the possibility of the club dipping back into the market this month, although plenty of fans would argue that new additions are needed after what has been a disappointing season so far.

Antoine Semenyo already looks to be out of the picture as he closes in on a move to Manchester City, and Liverpool may yet see another target move to the Etihad if the latest reports are anything to go by.

Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds today.

Marc Guehi (Crystal Palace)

Manchester City believes it has beaten Liverpool to the signing of Marc Guehi, according to the Mirror. The report comes as the race for the defender’s signature looks to be growing, with Arsenal also said to have now joined.

It’s City that looks to be leading the way at the moment though. The Mirror claims that both the Etihad club and Liverpool have been in extensive talks with Guehi, who of course came close to joining the Reds in the summer.

City is said to be confident of securing a £30 million ($40M) deal in the coming days, while Guehi is apparently keen to play for Pep Guardiola.

Liverpool.com says: This has felt inevitable from the moment Guehi's move to Liverpool was called off on deadline day, and it's not a good look for the Reds at all.

Liverpool needs a new center-back, and letting the one option who looked certain to join now head to City instead would be an absolute calamity. The club needs to pull its finger out and make a move for Guehi while it still can, rather than wait and let one of its biggest rivals swoop in.

Mor Ndiaye (Amitie FC)

Liverpool looks to be closing in on the signing of young center-back Mor Ndiaye, with Fabrizio Romano claiming a verbal agreement has been reached.

The 18-year-old, who starred for Senegal during the U17 World Cup back in November, is currently registered with Amitie Football Club in his come country, and is expected to go straight into the Reds’ U21 squad upon his arrival, with Amara Nallo heading out on loan as a result.

Liverpool.com says: It's always good to have one eye on the future, and Ndiaye has been getting some positive reviews after his performances at the U17 World Cup.

Hopefully he can follow the likes of Rio Ngumoha and Trey Nyoni in making the step up to the senior team in time, but there's no doubt the Reds also need a defender ready to slot straight in.
