Chelsea told sign£70M star–Blues encouraged to sign Prem striker–Chelsea given£60M transfer boost

Here is a roundup of the top Chelsea news, gossip and transfer speculation from icchelseanews tat you guys may have missed…

Former Blues star and now Pundit Pat Nevin has opened up and encouraged Chelsea to spend some money and try to bring in Everton star Jarrod Branthwaite to Stamford Bridge.

CHELSEA finished the season very well last year and they got champions League football, and they won a European trophy, which doesn’t come around very often. So Enzo Maresca was looking for a better start this season.

But on New Years day, he was allowed to leave and now Chelsea have former Strasbourg boss Liam Rosenior in charge in hope they can get back into the habit of winning and pushing towards that Premier League title

But it seems that they are now looking at adding the talented Branthwaite to the side in order to help improve the defensive side of the game, as the Blues have been very shaky at the back this season.

On a potential defensive addition, Nevin said: ‘Jarrad Branthwaite is another player Chelsea could be looking at.

‘They desperately need a centre-back and while he’s been injured at Everton for most of the season, given Chelsea’s methodology and youthful transfer policy, I don’t know of any better young centre-backs than Branthwaite.’

CHELSEA need to improve that defence, so he will get some game time, they will challenge for trophies and he could also get a bumper new pay rise, it would be very hard to turn down a move to London.

But £70 million is alot of money for a player that only has the potential to become one of the best in the Premier League.

CHELSEA TOLD SIGN WATKINS

Former Blues star Pat Nevin insists Chelsea should be targeting a new striker during this January window now that the Blues have completed the appointment of Liam Rosenior from Stasbourg.

CHELSEA are more than happy with the attack that he already has this season, but the lack of goals from Joao Pedro, Liam Delap and Marc Guia means that the Blues are looking this transfer window

Rosenior does not know what players will suit his style of play, but he does know that he needs a striker that will have the ability to score goals on a weekly basis, rather than every other game.

After a slow start to the season, Ollie Watkins now looks guaranteed to be part of Thomas Tuchel’s England World Cup squad having hit a purple patch, and Nevin has opened up and claimed that a move for Watkins should happen by the Blues.

‘Signing Ollie Watkins could be Chelsea’s top priority in this January transfer window,’ Nevin told ‘BetWright UK’.

‘With seven goals in his last seven games for Aston Villa in the Premier League, he’s hitting the form we saw a couple seasons ago.

‘I admire Liam Delap and his work rate, but when it comes to pure quality, Watkins is the more favourable option.’

We have seen big players move in the January window, but unless CHELSEA offer something crazy for Watkins, we cant see Villa letting one of the clubs star players leave when they are challenging for a Champions League place next season.

MARC GUEHI BOOST

Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner says he “does not know what will happen” with captain Marc Guehi’s future this month, amid speculation that Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City are all keen on the defender

Guehi has established himself as one of the most highly regarded and sought-after defenders in Premier League football since leaving boyhood side Chelsea for Palace in 2021.

A series of strong performances at Euro 2024 only enhanced Guehi’s reputation and the likes of CHELSEA were all credited with an interest following those performances for his country a few seasons ago.

Palace have managed to fend off their Premier League rivals to keep hold of Guehi and handed the centre-half the captain’s armband ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, but now Sky Sports News understands Palace are expected to consider offers below last summer’s asking price in January after he almost signed for Liverpool on Deadline Day for £35m in the summer.

Glasner confirmed Guehi will play at home against Aston Villa on Wednesday, live on Sky Sports, but is unsure of his long-term future – The Austrian said: “I don’t know what will happen. It’s just the 6th [of January].

“Honestly, I don’t know. Injuries can happen, you never know.

“But I know Marc will play tomorrow. I expect it. He trained. But I don’t know what will happen.”
