U21s preview: Arsenal v West Bromwich Albion

Our young Gunners will return to Premier League 2 action after the winter break to host West Bromwich Albion on Friday, January 9.

The match will take place at Mangata Developments Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 7pm (UK time), and will be available to stream on Arsenal.com and the official app.

It has been over two months since Max Porter's under-21s last competed domestically, back when we drew 1-1 away to Southampton in early November. The opener from Charles Sagoe Jr earned us a point in the affair and means we currently sit 15th in the table with 12 points.

The opposition

--------------

The Baggies have weathered a tough PL2 campaign so far, picking up only a single win from their first nine games, which came in a late 2-1 comeback against Reading in October. Additional draws against Crystal Palace, Leeds United and Stoke City mean they currently place 27th in the table with six points.

Performances in the Premier League Cup have improved, as the West Midlands side topped Group E with 13 points, competing against Brentford, Luton Town, and Exeter City for a place in the round of 16.

West Brom also participated in the Premier League International Cup this season but failed to finish in the top two qualifying spots in Group B after just one win from four games, a 4-2 victory over Juventus.

We last met our opponents on the road in April 2025, when a seven-goal thriller ended in a 4-3 loss. Goals from Sagoe Jr, Will Sweet and Khayon Edwards weren't enough to edge the tie at Damson Park.
