“Still an issue” – Chelsea insider provides concerning Cole Palmer update

One of Liam Rosenior’s objectives will be to get Cole Palmer back to his best, but the groin injury which has plagued him this season is still an issue according to journalist Kieran Gill.

Palmer missed the majority of the first half of season with a groin injury, which had caused him problems at the Club World Cup.

The England international returned to action against Leeds in December, but he’s struggled to recapture his form.

Cole Palmer still being caused issues by groin injury

Palmer has scored twice since returning from injury, but his performances haven’t been anywhere near his usual standard.

He looks short of match sharpness, but in the last two games against Manchester City and Fulham he’s looked off the pace.

Palmer completed his first 90 minutes since September against City, but was withdrawn in the second half of Wednesday’s defeat against Fulham.

The 23-year-old was deployed on the right against Fulham, the position he had great success in under Mauricio Pochettino, and Rosenior will be tasked with getting him back to his best.

There’s no doubt Palmer will rediscover his form, but Gill has reported the groin injury he had is still causing issues.

“Liam Rosenior’s target is to get Champions League qualification as the main priority,” he told Give Me Sport.

“One of his objectives will be to get Cole Palmer back firing, although the groin injury he had is still an issue.

“The medical staff decided surgery was not needed and think it can heal.”

Liam Rosenior preparing to take charge of first game

Whilst Rosenior watched from the stands on Wednesday he will take charge of his first game on Saturday against Charlton in the FA Cup.

Chelsea haven’t won a domestic trophy since 2018, and are well overdue success in the domestic cups and another trip to Wembley.

Charlton represents a potential banana skin, and it will be interesting to see how strong a side Rosenior fields, and whether he starts Palmer.

The cup could provide a welcome distraction given the poor league form, but anything other than advancing to the next round would be a disaster.
