Arsenal transfer news: Green light for January move after Marc Guehi decision

After a summer spending spree of around £250million, Arsenal seemed set for a quiet January transfer window. The club made permanent signings, including Viktor Gyokeres, Martin Zubimendi, Eberechi Eze, Christian Norgaard, Kepa Arrizabalaga, and later added Piero Hincapie on loan for the 2025/26 season.

The Gunners' league position reflects the quality of recruitment by sporting director Andrea Berta, suggesting that only unique market opportunities would prompt winter additions. One such opportunity was Antoine Semenyo's £65million release clause at Bournemouth. As a lifelong Arsenal fan, he might have favoured a move to the Emirates Stadium, but Manchester City have secured his services.

Pep Guardiola's team are also eyeing Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi due to a defensive injury crisis. However, Arsenal have entered the race.

In addition to bolstering the senior squad, Arsenal are eager to significantly upgrade their academy.

Blackburn Rovers' 18-year-old forward Igor Tyjon has been identified as a key target, with moves being made to sign him after he turned down a new contract at Ewood Park. With all this in mind, Express Sport has compiled the latest Arsenal transfer news and rumours.

Arsenal join Guehi race

The Mirror claim that Arsenal are prepared to join the January transfer scramble for Guehi. The England international has previously been linked with Liverpool, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich before Manchester City declared their interest.

Guehi was admired by those in North London last summer before they opted to sign Cristhian Mosquera instead. However, the club still holds Guehi in high regard, as a green light has been given to pursue the defender, but it remains uncertain whether the Gunners will make a move now or wait until his contract expires in the summer.

This significant news follows an open admission from Oliver Glasner about the possibility of Palace selling Guehi this month.

He said: "I'm not naive. If a massive offer comes from City and Marc wants to do it, it will happen. If you're just valuing sports, everyone in the club will say Marc has to stay. The chairman will tell you the same. But it's not one-dimensional. If you see the financial situation, it's very important.

"If somebody comes, there will be a moment when the club says 'now the financial issue is more important than the sports issue'.

"There will be a threshold where the club has to say it will happen - as long as Marc says 'I want to leave', because the final decision is always with the player."

Bids submitted for teenager

Arsenal have already had several offers for Tyjon turned down by Blackburn.

The Gunners have shown interest in the young striker, who can also operate on the left wing, since last summer. The Sun reported that several offers exceeding £1million were rejected.

However, this has not deterred Arsenal, with recent reports suggesting they are still monitoring the England Under18s star.

Tyjon appears poised for a move, having declined a professional contract to stay at Ewood Park, leaving Blackburn bracing themselves for his departure.
