LaMelo Ball gets real about coming off the bench in loss vs. Pacers

Hornets star LaMelo Ball explained why he came off the bench in Thursday’s game against the Pacers.

The Charlotte Hornets star guard LaMelo Ball shined in his first game coming off the bench since his rookie year against the Indiana Pacers on Thursday.

The 24-year-old finished the game with 33 points and 8 assists, though his performance wasn’t enough as the Pacers secured a 114–112 win in Charlotte.

After the game, Ball explained why he came off the bench and addressed the final possession, which didn’t go as planned.

“I didn't start today, so I could finish the back end,” Ball said after the game.

“I take full responsibility; that was my fault,” he added about the end of the game. “That last lob—I could’ve dribbled that out, and some silly possession before that. The last pass—I should’ve shot that instead of putting Bull (Collin Sexton) in that position.”

Regarding coming off the bench, Ball noted that he and the coaches had discussions about it and will continue to work from there.

“Me and the coaches all talked, had convos, meetings, and go from there,” he said.

This season, LaMelo is averaging 20.3 points, 5 rebounds, and 7.7 assists in roughly 28 minutes per game.

With the loss, the Hornets dropped to a 13–25 record, placing them 12th in the Eastern Conference.
