Liverpool among the clubs "closely monitoring" £86.8m attacker who's "outstanding" - report

Liverpool are reportedly one of the clubs who are “closely monitoring” RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande, as well as some other Premier League teams.

The Reds battled their way to an impressive 0-0 draw away to Arsenal on Thursday evening, in a result that few saw coming for the game.

Liverpool dominated the second half, albeit without creating much, highlighting the lack of attacking depth without key figures available.

It is an area of the pitch that must be focused on this year and it looks as though the Premier League champions are eyeing a player with lots of long-term potential.

According to Caught Offside, Liverpool are “closely monitoring” Leipzig ace Diomande, with Manchester City, Tottenham, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona also in the mix.

It is claimed that “summer, not January” is more likely, with the Bundesliga side demanding as much as £86.6m for the 19-year-old’s signature.

Can Diomande add another dimension to Liverpool’s attack?

Diomande is such an exciting talent with a big future ahead of him, with Leipzig sporting director Marcel Schafer speaking of his admiration for him, saying:

“He definitely fits in the profile we are looking for. Even though he was in Spain for just six months, he had some very impressive appearances. We looked for players with physical ability, who can create chances, and who can finish attacking actions. Yan is an outstanding talent with a high potential profile.”

Diomande already has 11 goal contributions in 16 appearances for Leipzig – seven goals and four assists – and he has also scored three goals in eight caps for the Ivory Coast, hoping to shine at this summer’s World Cup.

The teenager is at his best on the left wing, so he would provide much-needed competition for Cody Gakpo, with Rio Ngumoha still such a young player who shouldn’t be rushed into the setup.

Diomande can also do a job on the right flank, though, which could appeal to Arne Slot, as Liverpool look for eventual replacements for Mohamed Salah.

There is clearly big competition for the Ivorian, though, and the Reds could do with improving on the pitch, in order to show him that they are the club he should join.
