Liverpool did not register a shot on target against Arsenal
Liverpool earned plenty of plaudits in the aftermath of Thursday’s well-earned 0-0 draw against Arsenal.
Taking a point away at the league leaders is no mean feat, while stopping Arsenal scoring for a second time this season is also commendable. The Gunners have only failed to score twice this term, both of which have come against Arne Slot’s side.
Given Liverpool has not always stood up to adversity and challenges this season, that an understrength team that was missing a striker held Arsenal to a draw is undeniably impressive, especially with the Reds looking the more likely to win the game late on.

However, the defensive commitment meant Liverpool struggled to form attacks of its own and failed to register a shot on target.
That set an unwanted record, and not since March 2010 has Liverpool failed to produce a shot on target in a league game.
That came in March 2010 against Wigan Athletic, and the trip to the Emirates was Liverpool’s 600th Premier League match since then.

Despite that, the verdict was largely positive after the stalemate in North London.
“I think Arne Slot will be absolutely delighted with the performance of the players. Got to give him credit for his game plan,” Daniel Sturridge said in the Sky Sports studio.
“They weathered the storm in the first 20 minutes. After that, their work rate, how tenacious they were, was a very experienced performance, and they showed why they are champions.

“They lacked the cutting edge up front, but had very positive moments. Frimpong was a threat all night. Wirtz was very good, picked up a load of pockets, and was very clean tonight. The list goes on.”

“The defence was magnificent,” Sturridge added. “They stopped attacks all night, and I think the manager and players should be very proud of themselves. They performed exceptionally tonight.”
Despite the positive media reaction, Slot said he felt the performance was actually similar to Liverpool’s other recent draws against weaker opponents.
“Yes, we did really well with ball possession, but for me it was not that much different than playing Leeds home or Fulham away where we dominated the ball possession as well, but then people are annoyed because these teams are not of the magnitude of Arsenal and it is not good enough,” said the Dutchman. “I completely agree on it, because I want to see us create more chances as well.”
