Semenyo completes £62.5m move to Manchester City

The Ghanaian leaves AFC Bournemouth after close to three years in Dorset, following his arrival at the club from Bristol City in January 2023.

The forward signed off in the perfect way when he smashed home a stoppage time winner against Spurs on Wednesday night to return Bournemouth to winning ways after a run of 11 games without a victory.

He joined the club for a fee of around £9million with add ons, signing a deal which at the time took him to the end of the 2026/27 campaign.

But he put pen to paper on new contracts in the summer of 2024 and 2025, with the latter of the two inserting a release clause.

That clause was revealed in November, with big clubs then reportedly interested in securing Semenyo’s signature in January.

Liverpool, Manchester United, Spurs and Chelsea were all reportedly interested, but it is Pep Guardiola’s City who have signed the forward.

As reported on Thursday, the fee for Semenyo will be the biggest in the club’s history, with the £62.5m fee greater than the £60m release clause, as City will need to pay over 24-month instalments.

There is an additional £1.5m in bonuses in the contract, as well as a 10 per cent sell on clause for the Cherries.

This season, Semenyo hit the ground running with six goals and three assists in seven games, before scoring three in three games against Manchester United, Burnley and Brentford in December.

Semenyo’s strike against Spurs took his tally for the season to ten, and he’ll be looking to add to that with his new club.

In total, Semenyo scored 32 goals and provided 13 assists for AFC Bournemouth in 110 games across all competitions, with 101 appearances and 30 goals in the Premier League.
