Gabriel Martinelli is not expected to receive any further retrospective FA punishment for pushing Conor Bradley during the 0-0 draw between Arsenal and Liverpool. The Brazilian was shown to push the full back off the pitch after Bradley injured himself clearing the ball without being challenged.
The Brazilian initially dropped the ball on the defender before, after witnessing Bradley make a movement to move further on to the field, pushing the player. Liverpool’s players took issue with the action, pushing the Arsenal winger away before he was eventually booked by Anthony Taylor.
Due to being spotted by Taylor and booked for the action, there is no expected retrospective action from the FA to be taken. The incident will have been noted in the referee’s report as a result of the booking.
Martinelli took to social media to post an apology for the action after the game. The 24-year-old admitted that he had made contact with the Liverpool defender.
"I really didn't understand he was seriously injured in the heat of the moment," Martinelli posted on Instagram. "I want to say I'm deeply sorry for reacting. Sending Conor all my best again for a quick recovery."
Arne Slot also had sympathy for Martinelli after the game. The Liverpool boss explained how he empathised for the Arsenal man, citing the growing issue of time-wasting in the game as the cause for the flared temper.
"I don't know Gabriel Martinelli, but he comes across as a nice guy," said Slot. "I think the problem for him - and it's a problem in general in football - is that there is so much time-wasting and players pretending that they are injured in the final parts of the game and during the game, that you can sometimes be annoyed if you want to try to score a goal that you think the player is time-wasting. You cannot ask Martinelli to think so clear in the 94th minute."
Mikel Arteta said he would speak to the player but furthered the point of Martinelli’s own temperament. He explained that the player would likely not have known the severity of the situation.

“Knowing Gabi, if anybody knows Gabi, he's an incredible, lovely guy, and probably he didn't realise what happened, I hope that Conor as well, I will have a word with him now to understand that, but probably he didn't recognise what happened,” he said.
