Gabriel Martinelli will not face further punishment after pushing Liverpool defender Conor Bradley last night.

In yesterday’s (January 8) goalless draw at the Emirates, Bradley dropped to the ground in added time with a serious injury. Martinelli, 24, pushed Bradley off the pitch and threw the ball at him late in the game, sparking a heated confrontation.

The Brazil internaional has since apologised, and the Football Association is not expected to take any further action.

According to reports, the FA is satisfied that referee Anthony Taylor dealt with the situation correctly. Martinelli was booked during the match, and retrospective punishment is only considered when officials are deemed to have missed a serious incident.

In a post on social media, Martinelli said: “Conor and I have messaged and I have already apologised to him. I really didn't understand he was seriously injured in the heat of the moment.

“I want to say I'm deeply sorry for reacting. Sending Conor all my best again for a quick recovery.”

Speaking on Sky Sports after the game, both Gary Neville and Roy Keane were fiercely critical of Martinelli’s actions, with the latter describing it as “disgraceful”.

The extent of Bradley’s knee injury is still unclear, but the Northern Ireland international is expected to spend a significant period on the sidelines.
