FORMER Leeds United, Coventry City and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Terry Yorath has died aged 75. Yorath was a member of the Leeds squad that enjoyed significant success from the mid-to-late 1960s to the early 1970s and was capped 59 times by Wales. He went  into management when his playing days were over and was involved with Bradford City when the club was struck by a dreadful fire in their grandstand in May 1985. He managed Swansea, Bradford City, Cardiff City and Sheffield Wednesday as well as Wales and Lebanon.

LAMINE Yamal has been ranked the most valuable player in football by CIES Football Observatory. The Barcelona forward was valued at € 343 million, almost € 100 million more than Erling Haaland, who was placed as the second most valuable. The top six also included Kylian Mbappé, Jude Bellingham, Michael Olise and Florian Wirtz.

THE AFRICA Cup of Nations last eight kick-off on January 9 with Malia playing Senegal and Cameroon meeting hosts Morocco. The other quarter-finals are scheduled for January 10 – Algeria versus Nigeria and Egypt versus Ivory Coast.

MANCHESTER CITY have, as expected, signed Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo for £ 65 million. The 26-year-old has signed a contract that will expire in 2031.
