By now, most Reds fans are aware that Juventus have made formal contact with Liverpool over a potential January reunion with Federico Chiesa. The Serie A giants are exploring the possibility of bringing the 28-year-old Italian winger back to the Allianz Stadium after a mixed spell at Anfield, where he has started just two Premier League matches since his bargain £12 million transfer in August 2024.

Juventus effectively forced Chiesa out in the summer of 2024, with then-coach Thiago Motta banishing him from the squad and sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli unable to agree a new deal. Eighteen months on, with both Motta and Giuntoli no longer at the club, the Bianconeri are now eagerly trying to bring him back.

The key obstacle remains how any transfer is structured. Juventus are strongly pushing for a six-month loan that includes an option to buy, whereas Liverpool are holding out for a straight permanent sale that guarantees they recover the €12 million they paid for him just a year and a half ago.

But it seems that the Old Lady want a return for the Italy international, and are looking to submit an improved bid, at least according to Sky Italy – who report that Juve could instead make it right to buy that could turn into an obligation:

“The Bianconeri are not giving up, they are trying to find a way to bring Federico Chiesa back to Turin and for this reason they are studying a new offer to present to Liverpool for the winger: the way could be that of the loan with the right to buy which would become an obligation under certain conditions, so as to protect the parties and try to unlock the operation. On the other hand, however, the English club does not change its conditions and would only leave the player permanently.”

It remains to be seen if the Anfield club decides to let Chiesa go with Alexander Isak out for most of the season and Mohamed Salah’s situation still to be ironed out.
