Championship relegation rivals swoop to sign former Portsmouth favourite as Ipswich Town eye…

John Mousinho pre-Arsenal

The latest transfer headlines involving Pompey and their Championship rivals.

Although Pompey have one eye on this weekend’s huge FA Cup third-round tie against Arsenal, attention is firmly on the transfer window as John Mousinho looks to strengthen his squad.

While the head coach has admitted he doesn’t expect any new faces before Sunday’s tie at Fratton Park, there is a belief that new arrivals will come in before next weekend’s trip to Sheffield Wednesday.

Elsewhere, there is plenty of gossip and speculation doing the rounds across the Championship as clubs look to put their transfer plans into action.

Here are the latest headlines involving Pompey and their second-tier rivals.

Swans swoop for ex-Pompey man

The Swans announced on Thursday evening that the 36-year-old has sealed a switch to South Wales on a short-term deal until the end of the season.

The right-back had been without a club for the first half of the campaign after departing Crystal Palace at the end of a successful 13-year stay, which saw him lift the FA Cup in May.

Ward, who rose through the ranks at Fratton Park, amassed 363 outings for the Eagles following his move to Selhurst Park in 2012, more than 300 of which coming in the Premier League.

Ward makes the move to the Swansea.com Stadium with Vitor Matos’ men just seven points above his boyhood club in 17th.

After rising through the academy at PO4, the full-back went on to register 96 appearances for the Blues following his debut in 2009 in the top flight.

Ward could be in line for an emotional Fratton reunion when Swansea make the trip to the south coast in March.

Ipswich Town are reportedly interested in landing Chelsea wonderkid Kendry Paez this month.

That’s according to journalist Mustafa Karatas, who has suggested the Tractor Boys could land the attacking midfielder on loan for the remainder of the campaign.

The 18-year-old could depart Stamford Bridge on a temporary basis once again this month, having spent the first half of the season with sister club Strasbourg.

Paez made the move to south London in 2023 for £17m from Ecuadorian top-flight side Independiente del Valle, but is yet to register a first-team outing for the Premier League outfit.

News of Ipswich’s interest in the attacking midfielder comes after Pompey boss Mousinho admitted Tractor Boys loanee Chaplin is set to stay at Fratton Park for the second half of the season.
