Minnesota Timberwolves hold moment of silence for woman killed by ICE agent

The Minnesota Timberwolves on Thursday held a moment of silence to honor Renee Nicole Good, a Minneapolis woman who was fatally shot by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer on Wednesday.

The Timberwolves honored Good prior to its home game against the Cleveland Cavaliers at Target Center in Minneapolis.

“We’re saddened by the tragedy that occurred yesterday in our Minneapolis community in the loss of Renee Nicole Good,” the Timberwolves public address announcer told the crowd of 17,274 at Target Center. “Our thoughts are with her family and everyone affected, and our hearts are with our community as we hope for healing and unity during this challenging time. Please join us in a moment of silence.”

Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch echoed those sentiments during a media session prior to the game.

“As we all know, our community has suffered yet another unspeakable tragedy,” Finch said. “We want to just convey our condolences and heartfelt wishes and prayers and thoughts to the families and loved ones and all of those that are greatly affected by what happened.”

Good was killed while inside an SUV on a residential street in Minneapolis on Wednesday, according to witness video that has circulated online.

In the video, two ICE officers are seen approaching the SUV, which is parked in the middle of the road. One officer is twice heard saying “get out of the car” while the other pulls on the driver side door handle, which does not open. As the vehicle pulls forward, another ICE agent is seen firing three shots at the vehicle, which soon after crashed into two parked cars. Good was later pronounced dead from multiple head wounds.

Good’s death has led to nationwide protests, including in Cleveland, against ICE and the Trump administration.

The Timberwolves defeated the Cavaliers, 131-122.
