A native of Dalzell, SC, Morant is in his seventh NBA season out of Murray State. He’s appeared in 18 games this season, averaging 19.0 points on .401 shooting, 7.2 assists and 3.2 boards over 28.3 minutes a night.

Charania notes that the Grizzlies would be looking for draft picks and young players in any potential deal. Morant is in the third season of a five-year, $197 million deal, keeping him under contract through 2027-2028.

Once one of the NBA’s brightest young stars, Morant’s career has been riddled with suspension and injury in recent years, playing in just 59 total games over the 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 seasons. In 2023, Morant was suspended twice, totalling 32 games, for displaying guns on Instagram Live. This past November, Morant was suspended for one game due to conduct detrimental to the team after an alercation with head coach Tuomas Iisalo and his staff late in a loss to the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Grizzlies (16-21) host the Oklahoma City Thunder (31-7) on Friday night.
