Jermaine Pennant says Arne Slot should be sacked if Liverpool miss out on Marc Guehi
Yes, the former Liverpool player is really putting Slot’s future on the line with the Marc Guehi saga.
With each passing day, Guehi to Liverpool in January looks less likely. Man City have stolen a lead in the race, and it could leave the Reds in a tough spot.
On the latest episode of the Wildcards podcast, Pennant claims: “If Guehi goes Man City, I think Arne Slot needs to get sacked.”
It’s a bizarre statement considering the two things have little to do with one another. Slot isn’t Liverpool’s recruitment team, and missing out on Guehi is no reflection of him.

Perhaps Pennant just thinks Liverpool’s season depends on the transfer, and that losing out to Man City makes their prospects dire.
Or maybe the former Liverpool man just wants to stir the pot.

Liverpool favoured for Marc Guehi over Bayern, but…
A report from BILD journalist Hieko Niedderer on Friday suggested that Liverpool is the more likely destination for Guehi in the summer than Bayern.
It states: ““At the moment they (Bayern) don’t have much hope that a move for Marc Guehi could work out in the summer.
“It’s a shame really. You could easily imagine him in the Bundesliga as well, but I think if almost all the top English clubs are in for him, Liverpool are also interested, then it becomes pretty difficult for Bayern in the end.”
The problem is, he might not still be on the market come June.

Crystal Palace have upped their asking price for Guehi, but Man City might not be deterred given their current crisis. If they snap him up in the coming weeks, the Liverpool/Bayern talk is a moot point.
One thing I can say for sure is that it won’t be Slot’s fault. Pennant’s comments are truly confusing.
