Former Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers got the upper hand over Cristiano Ronaldo with the latest result in the Saudi Pro League. Thursday night saw Al Nassr take on Al Qadsiah in the Saudi top flight, which saw Ronaldo get on the score sheet despite being on the losing side.
Al Qadsiah claimed a 2-1 win over Al Nassr at Al-Awwal Park, with Julian Quinones and Nahitan Nandez getting the goals for Rodgers’ team.
Ronaldo managed to get a goal for Al-Nassr, where he found the back of the net from the penalty spot in the closing minutes.
Before kick-off, Rodgers and Ronaldo could be seen hugging on the touchline as they greeted each other before the game got underway. The pair had a brief chat before Rodgers’ team went on to defeat Ronaldo and Co., which was the third consecutive victory for the former Liverpool boss.
Rodgers was appointed as Al Qadsiah manager last month following his departure from Celtic. He has since overseen four matches, picking up 10 points from a possible 12 on offer.
After the win, which moved Rodgers' side up to fourth place in the Saudi Pro League table, the former Liverpool boss dedicated the victory over Al Nassr to Al Qadsiah supporters.
“We are very happy with today’s victory, and we dedicate it to our fans and to the people of Khobar, who truly deserve this win,” Rodgers said via Al Qadsiah’s website.

“We showed our capabilities against a big club like Al-Nassr. In the second half, we needed to improve our ball possession, and that is something we worked on throughout the match.
“We tried to force Al-Nassr to play long balls, and we asked our attackers to drop back and contribute defensively. All the players delivered an outstanding performance both offensively and defensively, and their tactical discipline was clearly evident.
“Our goal is to continue winning and to make this victory a strong motivation for achieving more positive results in the upcoming matchweeks of the Saudi Pro League.”
