Robbie Fowler names who he thinks are the four biggest legends in Liverpool history

A Liverpool icon himself, Robbie Fowler was asked for his Mount Rushmore of Liverpool players.

Fowler is one of the greatest goalscorers to grace the pitch at Anfield.

Any conversation about Liverpool greats has to at least mention the 50-year-old, who was considered one of the most natural finishers the sport had to offer.

When it comes to his top four, though, Fowler is perhaps too humble to include himself. Instead, he names some absolute legends of the Kop, with one surprising omission.

Robbie Fowler’s Liverpool Mount Rushmore

There’s no shortage of outstanding players who have donned the Liverpool red in years gone by.

That makes narrowing the list down to four a tall task, but one Fowler took on in a recent interview with Sportbible.

He says: “I’ll go for the greatest. Stevie G has got to be there for dragging Liverpool through so much. Ian Rush, in terms of his goals. Sir Kenny Dalglish, and you know what, I’m gonna put John Barnes on there as well.

“Honestly, there needs to be a Mount Rushmore 2 and a Mount Rushmore 3. I think we could go on all day with Liverpool players. Some absolute superstars there.”

It’s a selection that won’t ruffle too many feathers, with all four meriting recognition among the very best to play at Anfield.

That being said, there is one man who might feel hard-done-by to not make it in.

Mohamed Salah doesn’t make the cut for Robbie Fowler

This season, Mo Salah has struggled at Liverpool.

The growing rift between him and Arne Slot has sent shockwaves throughout the club.

But looking at what the Egyptian has done in his Liverpool career, you could argue that he deserves a place over John Barnes or Ian Rush.

Salah has won everything with Liverpool, scoring 250 goals in the process. Sure, Rush’s 346 puts him in a league of his own, but he has played far more games for the Reds.

Gut feeling, has Mohamed Salah played his last game for Liverpool? If yes, how do you feel about it?

Another interesting, albeit correct omission, is Steve McManaman. Only because Fowler claimed McManaman is the best he played with. He doesn’t have the resume to enter this conversation, though.

As I said, you couldn’t begrudge his selections, but Salah has every bit as much of a claim to make that list.
