There has been a wave of positive news coming out of Liverpool Football Club today.

Young striker Will Wright formally returned from injury when we played for the under 21s against Norwich City earlier today.

While Wright had played football in the past few weeks, it was done in a behind closed doors game, whereas this was a more public game.

Then there were the transfer news stories.

Two in one day.

Liverpool Women officially signed Anna Josendal from Hammarby IF as they continue their pursuit to improve their side for the second half of the season.

Mor Talla Ndiaye was then officially announced as the latest signing as the club brought into the 18-year-old defender subject to international clearance.

This was all done in the backdrop of The Reds taking a point off league leaders Arsenal in their English Premier League clash last night in a game that Arne Slot’s men could have taken all three points in.

So it’s been a positive day overall.

But as is usually the case, when you receive some good, you know that some bad news is just around the corner.

And so that has proved the case, with Liverpool confirming that one of their key summer signings has picked up an injury.

In the lead up to their Women’s Super League (WSL) clash against London City Lionesses on the weekend, head coach Gareth Taylor has confirmed that summer signing and key striker Beata Olsson will miss the game with an injury picked up recently.

“Beata Olsson has picked up a little knock, which probably rules her out of the game this weekend,” Taylor said.

“It’s frustrating because Beata was doing really well pre-Christmas.

“Again, it limits our options at the top end of the pitch a little bit. But, again, we’re working hard to bring the players in”.

These comments were made before Liverpool announced the signing of Josendal, so the comment about players coming in makes sense now.

But Liverpool will miss Olsson.

Joining Liverpool from Kristianstads DFF in the summer, Beata Olsson has been the bright spark for a Liverpool team struggling overall.

Olsson has made 13 appearances for The Reds and scored 8 goals and providing 1 assist.

She’s the leading goalscorer for the team and losing her will severely hamper the goal threat for the side.

There’s no word yet whether Anna Josendal will make her debut for the club against London City Lionesses, but Taylor will be hoping to call upon Olsson soon and will hope that the knock isn’t something that’s going to keep her out of action for too long.
