Man United are one of several Premier League clubs monitoring the Wolves starlet.
Man United are yet to make any major moves in the January transfer window, as it will be difficult considering they don’t know who will be in charge for the long-term future at the club.
However, seeing as United sit just three points off the top four after their 2-2 draw against Burnley, the higher-ups at Old Trafford will be keen to strengthen their squad to help whichever interim manager takes over to guide the team to Champions League football, which would be a huge financial boost.
In Ruben Amorim’s penultimate game as United boss, the Red Devils failed to beat a struggling Wolves side at Old Trafford. The two teams drew 1-1, and it was certainly a big part of Amorim’s sacking; one Wolves player caught Man United’s eye that day.
Man United, Man City & Liverpool target Mateus Mane
Wolves youngster Mateus Mane was one of the highest-rated players during the draw at Old Trafford. He played as a midfielder in Rob Edwards’ 3-5-2 formation, but he was able to drift into attack, which is more of his natural position.
The 18-year-old has become a regular in Wolves’ starting XI in recent weeks, and he has already begun to catch the eye of several top Premier League clubs, including Man United. He scored for Wolves this week as they drew 1-1 against Everton, and it is understood he had a lot of eyes on him on Wednesday.
Journalist Graeme Bailey revealed via TeamTalk: “Scouts from United, Liverpool and Manchester City were all in attendance at the Hill Dickinson Stadium to see him score against Everton, with the Toffees themselves also monitoring him closely.
“Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham have likewise watched Mane, and we can confirm that each has made enquiries with his camp to register their interest.”
The 18-year-old can play in midfield, up front, or as a winger, and if United were able to sign him, whoever the new manager is, could mould him into exactly what they want; He could become a real star for any top Premier League club.
Man United linked to fellow Wolves star
Mane isn’t the only Wolves player to be linked with a move to Man United this Winter, as the Red Devils are also desperate to strengthen in midfield before the end of the month. It is a badly-kept secret that United plan to spend big on a midfielder in the summer, such as Carlos Baleba or Elliot Anderson.
The Brazil international has made 20 Premier League appearances for Wolves this season, and if the Midlands-based club begin to resign themselves to relegation, they could decide to cash in on the 24-year-old, who is expected to cost upwards of £40m.
