Thunder vs. Grizzlies: The matchup

Oklahoma City has battled dicey moments in December and January after looking like a team that could challenge the NBA’s single-season wins record early. The team is 7-5 after opening the campaign with a 24-1 mark through 25 games, but got back into the win column Wednesday night against the Utah Jazz (129-125 in OT) after suffering back-to-back losses to Phoenix and Charlotte. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander played a leading role in that bounceback effort with 46 points and 17-of-19 attempts at the free throw line.

The Grizzlies look to stay in the Western Conference playoff fight early in the new calendar year, but they’ve absorbed five losses in their past six games to fall to 16-21 and 10th place in the West. Memphis will play its third straight home game against a West playoff contender after falling to the Phoenix Suns (117-98) and beating the San Antonio Spurs (106-105).
