Trae Young and Zaccharie Risacher spent one season together before Young's trade to the Washington Wizards.
After the trade that sent Trae Young to the Washington Wizards, members of the Atlanta Hawks spoke on what Young meant to them and the organization. For Zaccharie Risacher, Young was much more than a teammate to him.
“He’s my guy, that’s my brother. That was one of the first people I met in this organization, and from day 1, he always had my back, Risacher said about Young. “I want what’s best for him. If he’s happy, I’m always happy for him.”
Risacher and Young only spent one season together and Risacher had a lot of respect for Young. Though the two or no longer teammates, that bond still remains strong.
Trae Young Spoke Highly on Zaccharie Risacher
Young had nothing but positive things to say about Risacher. In a one-on-one interview with Responsible Gambler’s DJ Siddiqi, Young talked about seeing Risacher for the first time and how he thinks he’ll do in his rookie season.
“Zach is going to be an unbelievable player,” Young said. “He’s very young, he’s only 19. He’s going to play most of the season as a 19-year-old. He’s very talented, he’s taller in person. He can shoot it and he has a lot of skill. My first impressions are that he’s going to be great and he has a lot of upside to him. Looking forward to playing with him this season.”
When Risacher made his preseason debut last year, Young was pleased with what he saw.
“Yeah, I hate that this was not the first game of the season where it counts for real because that was a hell of a performance and a hell of a start,” Young said about Risacher’s performance. “I wanted him to feel like how he felt tonight like there is no pressure on him, he can go out there and be himself and he played like he did tonight. He shot the ball really well and has a great feel for the game and can make the right reads, obviously, he is going to make some turnovers and make some mistakes, but he is going to have a hell of a career.”
Risacher finished the game with 18 points, three rebounds and two assists. In his rookie season, Risacher appeared in 75 games and averaged 12.6 points and 3.6 rebounds. He saw a lot of action and gained a lot of experience as a 19-year-old playing in the league.
Trae Young and Zaccharie Risacher’s Play on the Court Together
During their time on the court together, Young made sure he got Risacher involved and had the opportunity to go out there and display his talents on the court. Last season, Risacher had a game where he scored 36 points against the Milwaukee Bucks. He knocked down five three-pointers and also had six rebounds.
That same game, Young finished with 19 points and 19 assists. In a post game interview, Young had a stern message about Risacher. “That’s the rookie of the year,” Young said. “I’m standing next to him, that’s all I can say.”
On the court, Young knows how to find the open man and make the right reads and that’s something he did when he and Risacher were on the court together. Though the two did not play long, they made an impact on the court.
