sBOSTON — Luke Kornet was back at TD Garden on Friday night one night before facing his former teammates at TD Garden. The Spurs center had an extra night in Boston before the Celtics host the Spurs on Saturday night and Kornet took advantage of the opportunity to keep tabs on ex-team. The former Celtics center watched the Raptors-Celtics matchup from curtsied o the baseline, sitting nearby to Celtics co-owner Wyc Grousbeck.
Kornet, 30 spent four straight seasons in Boston before signing a four-year deal with the Spurs this offseason worth $41 million. The big man has been a valuable insurance policy in the San Antonio frontcourt backing up Victor Wembanyama.
In 29 games this season,, Kornet is averaging 8.4 points, 6.7 rebounds and 2.1 assists while shooting 66 percent from the field. He has also started in 21 of 29 games with Wembanyama dealing with multiple injuries and limited minutes.
Kornet caught up with Grousbeck and injured Celtics star Jayson Tatum during timeouts on Friday night. The Spurs big man will have the benefit of two extra days of rest on Saturday night when facing off against Boston.
The Celtics will be coming off a back-to-back, adding to the challenge they will have against Kornet and the Spurs on Friday night. San Antonio currently holds the second-best record in the Western Conference at 26-11.
Boston and San Antonio will tip off at 8 p.m. on Saturday night.
