All the latest injury news surrounding Chelsea and Charlton Athletic ahead of their FA Cup third round tie.
A new era begins for Chelsea this weekend as Liam Rosenior prepares to take charge of his first game. Rosenior was in the stands for the Blues’ defeat to Fulham during the week, and he has now had chance to get his hands dirty on the training ground after officially taking the mantle.
Fortunately for Rosenior, he will be able to ease into life at Stamford Bridge with an FA Cup clash against Championship club Charlton Athletic this weekend. Charlton are currently 19th and five points clear of the drop in the second tier. Here we round up all the latest injury news surrounding both teams heading into this game.
Reece Burke - Out
Burke is out with a muscular injury until later this month.
Onel Hernandez - Out
Hernandez is expected to be out for another week or so yet as he looks to get back from a muscular issue.
Kayne Ramsay - Out
It’s a smilar situation for Ramsay, who has a calf issue.
Josh Edwards - Out
Edwards also has another week or so of recovery to do, in his case from an ankle injury.
Matty Godden - Out
Godden is expected to return in the not too distant future from a long-term knee issue. Nathan Jones said back in December: "An initial procedure didn't clear the injury up, so he needed a second procedure and that's why his return has been delayed. We're conscious of being careful with him in terms of his recovery. He will likely start training at the end of December and will hopefully be back at some point in January."
Marc Cucurella - Out (Suspended)
Romeo Lavia - Out
Lavia is not expected back from his hamstring issue until early January. Enzo Maresca said earlier in December: “It's a muscle problem. We don't know yet when he can be back. We don't know [if it will be long or short-term].”
Levi Colwill - Out
Colwill is out for the season with a serious knee injury. It was confirmed back in August: “Levi has today undergone successful surgery [for] an ACL injury. Medical assessments confirmed surgery would be the required course of action. Levi will now begin his recovery and be supported by the medical department at Cobham during his rehab phase.”
Dario Essugo - Out
Essugo is not ready to return here. Maresca said at the time: “Dario, he was okay, started some sessions with us, but he needs to slow down a little bit and will be out, but we hope nothing important. We hope he will be fine.”
Mykhailo Mudryk - Out (Suspended)
Mudryk is suspended. A club statement in the summer read: “We can confirm that Mykhailo Mudryk has been charged with Anti-Doping Rule Violations alleging the presence and/or use of a prohibited substance, in terms of Regulations 3 and 4 of The FA's Anti-Doping Regulations. As this is an ongoing case, we are not in a position to comment further at this time.” Mudryk is not included in the final count due to the nature of his absence.
