Man Utd next manager news as the Red Devils continue their search for Ruben Amorim's replacement

Manchester United will hold face-to-face talks with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Saturday as they look to advance with an agreement to appoint a caretaker manager until the end of the season.

The Red Devils sacked Ruben Amorim at the start of the week with United sources insisting a lack of progress with results and performances was behind the dismissal. The former Sporting CP boss had used what proved to be his final press conference to aim veiled digs at the club hierarchy.

Darren Fletcher has been appointed as interim boss and oversaw a 2-2 draw with Burnley in the Premier League in midweek. He is still in contention to remain in charge for the rest of the campaign and will take charge of Sunday’s FA Cup game against Brighton and Hove Albion.

United will hope to have a caretaker boss in position before the Manchester derby with Manchester City next weekend. A decision is expected early next week after Michael Carrick held face-to-face talks on Thursday.

The club are weighing up the positives and negatives of each candidate but cannot make an informed decision until their direct talks with Solskjær.

The former United striker has the most experience in senior management, having been in charge at the Red Devils previously. Carrick has had a short interim spell at Old Trafford while also managing Middlesbrough.

Fletcher revealed in his pre-match press conference that he has been having contact with chief executive Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox but that his only focus is on the clash with Brighton.

He said: "I speak to Omar and Jason. That's how the processes work. For me, I've been focusing on the job in hand, preparing the team for these two games.

"There's been no thought or conversation about my future. Honestly, the people in Jason and Omar have given me full responsibility to take control of these two games, make my own decisions, lead the team, guide the team, prepare the team, and that's what I've been doing.

"There's been no conversation with anybody outside of those two people in higher-up positions in the club."

United are already out of the Carabao Cup and with no European football - the FA Cup is their last genuine chance of silverware.

Fletcher added: "It's an important competition and Manchester United is about winning trophies and I think we've had good success in the competition in recent years.

"We won it a couple of years ago, lost in the final. It's an amazing competition. It's the first trophy that I won as a player.

“It's a special tournament and, you know, as in with the season so far, not in Europe, out of the League Cup, Premier League obviously, but it's an opportunity to win and we're giving ourselves every opportunity to win."
