Manchester United are reportedly in the market to sign a long-term replacement for Bruno Fernandes and are being linked with Chelsea star Cole Palmer

Chelsea have appointed Liam Rosenior as their new head coach this week with the former Hull City boss replacing Enzo Maresca at the club.

The Blues take on London rivals Charlton Athletic in the third round of the FA Cup on Saturday as they look to advance and bolster their hopes of winning silverware this season alive.

The clubs have not played each other since the 2006-07 Premier League season, with Chelsea winning both games by a one-goal margin.

Rosenior has joined the Stamford Bridge outfit during the January transfer window and the head coach insists he will have a say on any deals this month, as he was involved with decision making at Strasbourg.

He said in his press conference on Friday: “I did not get one player brought in who I did not want at Strasbourg - not one. These guys have been magnificent for me. The process is how it should be at every club."

One big decision Rosenior could have to be involved in is to do with Cole Palmer.

The England international has been a key player for Chelsea since his £45m move from Manchester City in 2023. He has been disrupted by injuries this season but remains a key player for the Blues.

The report claims that United are seeking a long-term replacement for Bruno Fernandes and Palmer is open to leaving West London. It has not been revealed how much it would take for Chelsea to sanction a sale but the Red Devils have reportedly held internal talks about putting a bid together.

Palmer grew up as a United fan and speaking earlier this year, he said: “When I do go back to the stadium [Old Trafford] it's good because I used to go and watch matches there."

The midfielder also revealed previously that former United striker Wayne Rooney was one of his idols as he was growing up. He added: "Obviously I supported United and he was probably the best player when I was watching them."

Palmer played his first 90 minutes for Chelsea since September against Manchester City last weekend as he continues to get back up to speed. He played 75 minutes against Fulham in midweek as Chelsea were beaten 2-1 in the West London derby.
