Chelsea enquire about signing 18-year-old Premier League star: Reports

Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing Wolverhampton Wanderers youngster Mateus Mane. However, they will have to compete with multiple Premier League clubs for his signature.

Mane impressed in his last two appearances for Wolves in the English top flight, scoring twice. He scored in their 3-0 win over West Ham United before netting in their 1-1 draw against Everton. His performances have attracted multiple top clubs for his signature.

As per TeamTALK, Chelsea have enquired about signing Mane. The Blues have signed numerous young players in recent years and could add the Wolves attacker to the list. However, Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal, and Tottenham Hotspur are also monitoring the 18-year-old.

After his goal against West Ham, Wolves head coach Rob Edwards said:

“He’s 18, but he’s almost like a little leader on the pitch. I think that’s contagious. I believe he influences others – with his energy, his enthusiasm. He’s truly a very bright talent, someone we should really admire. At the same time, we want to make sure we look after him.”

As per TeamTALK, Mane is happy to stay at Wolves, whose academy he joined in 2024 from Rochdale Youth. His contract with the Premier League's bottom-placed team will expire in 2029.

Liam Rosenior opens up on making his own decisions at Chelsea

The Blues have appointed Liam Rosenior as their new head coach following Enzo Maresca's departure on New Year's Day. He will take charge of his first game as the Chelsea head coach at Charlton Athletic in the FA Cup Third Round on Saturday.

In his pre-match press conference, Rosenior spoke about making his own decisions at the club, saying (h/t The Guardian):

“I don’t think it’s possible to ever be in this job and not be your own man. People will see through you straight away. I will make the decisions at this football club. That’s why I’ve been brought in. I understand. I know what’s being said in the press.

“But there’s no way you can be successful as a manager if you don’t make the decisions for yourself. The great thing for me is I’ve experienced working in this setup. The guys have been nothing but supportive for me at Strasbourg. We’ve had huge success at that club. I intend to work exactly the same way here.”

When asked about Chelsea signing young players, Rosenior referenced Sir Alex Ferguson's Manchester United. He said that the former Scotsman wasn't afraid to put young players in the team but still won titles.
