Liverpool "could be among" the clubs to sign "incredible" Premier League star in shock move

Liverpool “could be among” the teams to look to seal the signing of Fulham attacking midfielder Harry Wilson, bringing him back to Anfield in a potential shock move.

The Welshman emerged as an exciting part of the Reds’ academy during his younger years, but only managed to make two appearances for the first team.

Now 28, Wilson has been in sparkling form for Fulham this season, and speaking to Football Insider, former scout Mick Brown talked up the idea of him returning to Liverpool:

“Harry Wilson is going to be one to watch. He’s showing this season what he can do when he’s at his best, and that’s alerted a lot of clubs to his situation. I think Liverpool could be among them. It might be a surprise, but they’ve got the Salah situation going on in the background, and they’ve been looking to strengthen on the wing, so they could do worse than bringing Wilson back.

“He’s not a flashy name and it’s not necessarily the type of deal that would excite the fans, but he’s proving to be every bit as good as other names they’ve considered. If he can keep this form up until the end of the season and he decides not to re-sign with Fulham, it would be a low-risk option on a free transfer.

“Liverpool have spent a lot of money on big-name players who haven’t lived up to expectation, maybe taking a step away from that is exactly what they need.”

Would a Wilson reunion make sense for Liverpool?

As mentioned, Wilson is in superb form currently, scoring seven goals and registering four assists in the Premier League, with his wand-like left foot catching the eye.

Despite this, and the fact that Fulham manager Marco Silva has hailed him as “incredible” recently, it wouldn’t make sense for Liverpool to bring him back to the club.

The step up to the Reds is huge, with all due respect to the Cottagers, and Arne Slot and Richard Hughes need to be looking at a higher calibre of player in January and in the summer transfer window.

Wilson also turns 29 later this year, so it remains to be seen how much longer he is at his peak, acting as another reason for Liverpool to avoid re-signing the Wales international.
