Lionesses midfielder Georgia Stanway will leave Bayern Munich at the end of the season when her contract expires, the club has confirmed.

The 27-year-old joined the German champions in 2022 from Manchester City, arriving shortly after playing a pivotal role in England’s historic Euro 2022 triumph.

During her time in Munich, Stanway won the Frauen-Bundesliga in all three of her seasons with Bayern, although she spent much of last campaign sidelined with a knee injury.

Speculation over her future has intensified in recent months, with reports linking the midfielder to a return to England, most notably with Arsenal.

The Champions League holders - who count several of Stanway’s international teammates among their squad, including Leah Williamson, Alessia Russo and Chloe Kelly - are understood to be keen on the England international.

Any move is likely to depend on the club’s ability to offload players in the coming months.

Stanway wrote on social media: 'I am incredibly grateful to FC Bayern for the past years. And thankfully, my time here isn't over yet. The decision to leave Munich and my team was incredibly difficult and definitely not easy for me.

'I've made friends and memories here that will last a lifetime, and I've also been able to develop enormously as a player and person. I will give everything for the club and its sporting success until my very last day, just as I have for the past three and a half years.

'I want to say goodbye to the club and the fans at the end of the season with as many titles as possible.'

Bayern Munich Women posted on X: 'After four extremely successful years, Georgia Stanway will part ways with FC Bayern Frauen this summer.

'The English national team player will not extend her contract with the Munich side, which expires at the end of the season.'

Renowned for her relentless work rate and competitive edge, Stanway has been one of the most consistent performers for both club and country.

She has cemented her place as a regular starter under England head coach Sarina Wiegman, operating alongside Keira Walsh and Ella Toone in the Dutch coach’s preferred midfield trio.

Stanway once again underlined her value at Euro 2025, scoring a stunning solo goal against the Netherlands that helped England bounce back from their opening-day defeat, declaring afterwards that they were 'back to being proper England'.
