Club Brugge star Christos Tzolis has opened the door for Liverpool and Barcelona to sign him in the winter market.
The winger has been one of the standout players for his side this season, managing 11 goals and 15 assists. This hasn’t gone unnoticed as Atlético Madrid have shown interest.
Tzolis has been speaking to Het Nieuwsblad, who specifically asked him about claims linking him to the Madrid club.
“I want to go to a top team. That’s all I can say,” he said.
The newspaper immediately asked whether he could leave Club Brugge in January. When responding to that, the 23-year-old explained his plan is to continue at the Belgian club. The player added he’ll only change that stance for Liverpool or Barcelona.
“I’m not aware of any concrete interest at the moment, so I’m not even considering it. Maybe you know more than I do (laughs),” Tzolis explained.
“I’d like to win the title here first. Although you never know, so I can’t say with 100% certainty that I’ll stay this winter. If a crazy team comes along, like Barcelona, Liverpool… Anyway, you know what I mean. But I don’t think that will happen in the winter.”
Liverpool one of the exceptions
The Greece international is ready to join Liverpool or Barcelona if they were to make an approach.
“Don’t get me wrong: I’m really happy here. But I feel ready for a team that’s competing for trophies in one of the four biggest European leagues. That’s my ambition. I only want to leave Club Brugge for a truly top team,” he added.
It’s worth noting there’s been no concrete claims of Liverpool or Barcelona having interest in the attacker. Given his rise, it would be no surprise if they’ve taken notice. Should they decide to make advances, they’ll have to convince the Belgian club.
Last month, claims from Belgium explained Club Brugge need a massive bid to sanction a move in January.
