Breakout Bundesliga winger reveals Liverpool transfer ‘dream’: “I want to play at Anfield”

Impressive RB Leipzig attacker Yan Diomande has revealed his intention to one day play for Liverpool, declaring he “wants to play at Anfield.”

Yan Diomande’s Liverpool dream: A quick look

• Anfield ambition: The 19-year-old RB Leipzig star revealed he is a “big fan” and dreams of playing for Liverpool.

• Transfer status: Despite “advanced talks” rumours, Leipzig insist on a massive €100 million fee (£86.6m) for the Ivorian winger.

• Rapid rise: Diomande has exploded in the Bundesliga, recording 11 goal contributions in his first 16 games this season.

With Liverpool looking short in attack and Diomande breaking out as one of the Bundesliga’s best attackers this season, it was only natural that he would be loosely linked to the Reds in January.

While there may not be any imminent signs that Liverpool are pursuing the 19-year-old, the winger has already made clear that he would be up for a move.

Speaking on a TikTok live stream in November, Diomande was asked if he had a dream club.

He replied: “I have one, I want to play at Anfield. I want to play for Liverpool. I’m a big fan of Liverpool.”

The other voice in the video then asked about Barcelona and Real Madrid, only for Diomande to respond: “I’m a big fan of Liverpool because my father’s dream is to see me play at Anfield, so that’s my dream.

“You know, to fulfil my father’s dream is a dream for me too.”

Liverpool transfer links to Yan Diomande

As mentioned, there have been no local journalists reporting Liverpool’s interest in Diomande. However, sources elsewhere have linked the Cote d’Ivoire international.

Sky Sport Switzerland said in December that Liverpool have held ‘advanced talks’ with the attacker’s representatives, as have Tottenham.

At the same time, transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano also said Liverpool and Tottenham are among the clubs interested.

While it is only natural to assume the Reds would have scouted the forward, any claims the Sky Sport Switzerland claim that the Reds are ‘actively pursuing’ him should be taken with a pinch of salt.

As an attacker with end product and massive potential, Diomande wouldn’t come cheap.

Journalist Seb Stafford-Bloor wrote for the Athletic: “Leipzig continue to insist that he’s not for sale in January and that, even in the summer, a club would have to produce a truly exceptional offer to sign him — likely in the region of that €100 million (£86.6m) fee.

“He’s seen as one of the most talented players the club has ever had.”

His contract doesn’t expire until 2030, having only been at RB Leipzig since the summer of 2025.

Despite only having signed for RB Leipzig last summer, Diomande has already established himself as one of the best wingers in the Bundesliga.

Though he is a natural left winger, cutting inside onto his stronger right foot, he has excelled on both flanks in Germany, scoring seven goals and providing four assists in his first 16 games for RB Leipzig.

In fact, this season he has averaged 0.81 goals and assists per 90 minutes, a better tally than Antoine Semenyo and Rodrygo.

Of course, it has to be acknowledged that he is playing in a weaker league than some of Liverpool’s other potential wide targets, but his rise has been extraordinarily rapid.

Born in the Cote d’Ivoire, he moved to America when he was young and grew up playing high school football and eventually playing in the US fourth tier.

Just over a year ago, he got his move to Europe when Leganes came calling. However, he stayed there for just six months before joining Leipzig.

For his national team, he has already made eight appearances, scoring three goals for the Cote d’Ivoire whom he is currently representing at the Africa Cup of Nations.
