Marc Guehi ‘breakthrough’ could happen soon amid links to Man City and Liverpool - journalist

Marc Guehi has caught the eye of several Premier League clubs ahead of becoming a free agent later this year, including Liverpool.

The Reds wanted to sign Guehi in the 2025 summer window, seeing a £35m offer for the player turned down.

The England international is now set to leave Selhurst Park for free at the end of June 2026 after deciding against penning fresh terms with Crystal Palace.

This has, as expected, put a number of the Premier League’s top clubs on alert.

Arsenal were linked to Guehi earlier this week, while Manchester City interest has recently emerged as well.

Manchester City could make Marc Guehi breakthrough

Now, a fresh update on Guehi’s future has been shared by journalist Dean Jones.

It’s not great for Liverpool, though, as Jones has suggested that Man City ‘might make a breakthrough’ with the centre-back soon.

He said: “Marc Guehi would make a lot of money moving as a free agent at the end of the season.

“That’s not the be-all and end-all for him, it’s also about making sure he ends up at the best club he can end up at.

“He has the best chance of doing that as a free agent; that’s when you get Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid at the table. For now, he has the possibility of joining Man City.

“With Marc Guehi, from what I understand, they may have to get smart here and help him make up the money he would make as a free agent.

“If City can find a way to satisfy his needs on a sporting level and an ambition level, I think they might make a breakthrough, so that’s something to look out for.”

Conor Bradley could be out for a LONG time. Who is your ideal replacement? 🤕

Should Liverpool sign a right-back in January, or rely on the injury-prone Gomez as cover?

FSG need to help out Arne Slot

Losing out on Guehi to a direct rival, who have also recently secured the services of Antoine Semenyo, would be a blow.

But to make matters worse, Slot currently has just two fit centre-backs, and the injury-prone Joe Gomez, covering two positions.

Conor Bradley’s injury may mean Gomez is needed at right-back as well, so signing some form of centre-back cover this month seems like a must.

Liverpool expect a quiet transfer window, but paying up for Guehi should be a priority for FSG.
