Liverpool early frontrunners to land Ligue 1 superstar

Premier League holders Liverpool will welcome League One side Barnsley to Anfield in the FA Cup third round on Monday evening.

Arne Slot’s league champions have endured a difficult campaign so far and currently occupy fourth place in the top flight table, having dropped as low as 11th at one stage.

The Reds will be strong favourites to overcome the Tykes and reach the fourth round of the cup, but in the meantime it appears that Liverpool have also had some good news off the pitch.

According to CaughtOffside, Liverpool have emerged as the early frontrunners to sign Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola.

The report claims that the Reds are currently showing the strongest interest in the France international, who has established himself as one of the most talented attacking players in the French top flight over the past couple of seasons.

Barcola, 23, joined PSG from fellow Ligue 1 outfit Lyon in 2023 and has since made 126 appearances for the club across all competitions, scoring 31 goals and providing 34 assists.

The winger is also said to have emerged as a target for both Chelsea and Arsenal, but the report claims that it is Liverpool who have so far undertaken the most work on a potential deal for the Frenchman.

Barcola is contracted to PSG until the end of the 2027/28 campaign, but the report suggests that he looks increasingly likely to depart the French capital during this summer’s transfer window.

Liverpool are said to be keen to add a new wide attacking player to Slot’s squad, especially considering the uncertainty surrounding the future of Mohamed Salah at Anfield.

Barcola has been identified as a prime candidate for Slot to build his squad around, with the France international having played a key role in helping Luis Enrique’s side to win the Ligue 1 title, French Cup and Champions League last term.
