Where Yan Diomande could rank among Liverpool's most expensive January transfers of all time

Yan Diomande of RB Leipzig has expressed his desire to play for Liverpool.

Recent comments made by the player suggest that Diomande is a ‘big’ Liverpool fan.

Speaking recently, he said: “I want to play at Anfield, I want to play for Liverpool. I’m a big Liverpool fan. My father’s dream is to see me play for Liverpool.”

This admission comes less than 24 hours after one journalist in Germany said Liverpool’s interest in Diomande should be taken seriously.

Which Bundesliga talent are you taking? Yan Diomande or Said El Mala

They are not the only club looking at the player, however, with rivals Manchester City and Chelsea, as well as Bayern Munich, also mentioned as having an interest.

Meanwhile, it was shared last month that RB Leipzig are considering a fee of over €100m for Diomande.

That is around £88m, and if he were to move for that fee, it would make him one of Liverpool’s most expensive January signings.

Liverpool’s most expensive January transfers of all time

Luis Suarez: £22.7m from Ajax

Liverpool do not often do a ton of business in January windows, but sometimes they are able to get some serious deals.

Luis Suarez arrived from Ajax in 2011, helping to replace Fernando Torres in the squad after his Chelsea switch.

Suarez went on to have a prolific career at Anfield before eventually signing for FC Barcelona.

Andy Carroll: £35m

Liverpool seem to love a striker signing in the winter, though it’s fair to say Andy Carroll never quite had the same impact as Suarez.

He joined in the same window as the Uruguayan for what was, at the time, a record fee.

But Carroll scored just 11 goals in 58 matches during his time as a Liverpool player.

Cody Gakpo: £36.5m

Cody Gakpo joined Liverpool in 2022, signing from Dutch outfit PSV.

He remains at the club and is a regular starter under Arne Slot. However, some fans do not like Gakpo and his predictable nature.

To date, he has scored 47 and assisted 21 in 153 matches for the Merseyside outfit.

Luis Diaz: £37.5m

Luis Diaz arrived at Anfield for an initial £37.5m from FC Porto in 2022.

The Colombian went on to replace Sadio Mane on the left wing and played a key role in their 2024/25 Premier League title success.

Diaz is now impressing at Bayern Munich following his exit in the most recent summer window.

Virgil van Dijk: £75m

Liverpool paid a world-record (for a defender) £75m to sign Virgil van Dijk from Southampton back in 2017.

A huge fee, especially at the time, but there’s no denying it was worth every penny.

The now Liverpool captain has overseen two league title wins and a Champions League triumph since arriving from St Mary’s.

But should Diomande secure a move for his reported price tag, he would overtake the Dutchman as the Reds’ most expensive January addition.
