Chelsea are being linked with a Premier League midfielder who has been described as ‘outstanding’.
Chelsea are said to have their hat in the ring to sign a standout Premier League star this summer. The Blues are likely to be on a tight budget this month, even though Liam Rosenior has likely been promised an addition or two.
The Blues had to sell to buy for the most part in the summer after receiving a fine from UEFA for overspending, and they remain pretty restricted this month.
Their spending space should free up a little in the summer, though, and Rosenior will likely be able to offload a couple of players and add a couple to put his own stamp on his new squad.
One player Chelsea and a number of other clubs are expected to be interested in is Nottingham Forest and England star Elliot Anderson, who is likely to be on the move. The 23-year-old is a clear standout for Forest, who are battling relegation this season, although they look likely to outrun West Ham and the others.
Already a six-time England international and likely to be at the World Cup this summer, Anderson is likely to seize his opportunity to land a big move this summer.
Chelsea among those interested in Anderson
According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Chelsea and a number of others are likely to be in for Anderson this summer, although there will be a giant price demanded by Forest, especially with them being likely to stay up.
"All the top clubs like him, and most of them will be in the mix, maybe with the exception of Arsenal — they're the ones with a full midfield. Manchester United, teams on the continent, I heard Chelsea,” said Ornstein on The Athletic FC podcast.
“It won’t be January, the price will be too high. Even though some would commit the funds, I don’t know how easy it would be from a PSR perspective. He’s already earning in excess of £100,000, so you’re going to have to take him higher.
"Nottingham Forest have zero appetite to trade him right now. The summer is a different story — every player has their price. We're hearing figures of £80-£100m, maybe even more. He’ll have a World Cup, fitness pending, and probably start out there, although people are telling me that won’t impact the transfer. They all like him.”
Dyche praise
Speaking in December, Forest boss Sean Dyche praised Anderson for a performance against Tottenham. He said: “ thought Elliot Anderson was outstanding today because, as a manager, we look at the game differently.
“He did all the nuts and bolts. I’ve mentioned in the last few weeks about his development, doing the hard yards and getting in the right positions, breaking the game up. We know he can play.”
