Bid made: "Outstanding" forward now chooses between Man Utd and Liverpool

RB Leipzig sensation Yan Diomande has provided a key update on his future as interest continues to build from both Liverpool and Manchester United.

Two Premier League giants interested in Diomande

Still just 19 years old, Diomande enjoyed a spectacular calendar year in 2025.

The winger made his senior debut for Leganes, catching the eye of Leipzig, who signed him in the summer. Diomande has since scored six goals and notched two assists in 14 Bundesliga games, with Marcel Shafer, Leipzig's managing director, heaping praise on the youngster.

"He's a left winger with outstanding speed, can dribble, is very athletic and can finish. He also never gives up the ball and works for the team."

Diomande has, unsurprisingly, attracted interest from elsewhere with his form. Having scouted him in the past, Liverpool hold a Liverpool held talks for his signature and have even sent scouts to monitor him since the turn of the year.

Despite spending heavily in the summer, the Reds have struggled for consistent attacking threat this season. Marquee signings Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak have just six goal contributions between them and the latter suffered a leg break against Tottenham Hotspur in December, which has kept him out of action since.

Though absent from a 0-0 draw with Arsenal, Hugo Ekitike is back amongst the goals, having endured a barren stint following a strong start to his debut campaign. Elsewhere, though, long-standing players such as Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah have struggled to replicate their form from prior seasons. Many feel that, despite their summer spending, Liverpool are still in need of attacking depth. Although Arne Slot's side are seemingly well-placed to sign Diomande, they are certainly not the only interested party.

Also keen on the Ivory Coast international are Manchester United, who have tabled an £87m bid for Diomande in recent days as they look to sign the forward ahead of the winter transfer deadline.

The Ivorian would fit INEOS' general transfer mould of signing younger players with room to develop and naturally, would offer the club's attack further spark and competition for the likes of Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Amad Diallo.

Roy Keane might want Eddie Howe at Man Utd, but INEOS should play the waiting game...

Not all is plain sailing at Old Trafford, though. After a tumultuous 14-month tenure, Ruben Amorim was sacked following a 1-1 draw with Leeds United. Ex-midfielder Darren Fletcher has replaced him temporarily as the Red Devils search for a caretaker boss to guide them to the end of the season. The club, in turn, may wait until a concrete plan is in place before further advancing any transfer ambitions.

With elite clubs circling, Diomande himself has now offered an insight as to where he may be playing in the near future.

As per DaveOCKOP on X, Diomande revealed in a livestream on TikTok that his desire is to play for Liverpool, just as it is his "father's dream". Such news will, no doubt, feel like a hammer blow to Man United, particularly if they miss out on Diomande to one of their biggest rivals.

Under any circumstances, Diomande would certainly not be cheap, and regardless of his personal desires it is unclear whether Liverpool currently possess the funds they would need to pursue a deal given their summer spending.

Liverpool plan on signing wide forwards in 2026.

Although Slot has insisted that Liverpool have "moved on" from the drama surrounding Salah following his fiery comments last month, the Egyptian's future remains up in the air at Anfield. Arguably, the Reds have looked more consistent in the absence of their talisman.

Should the 33-year-old, who is currently at AFCON with his country, depart Merseyside this winter, it could provide the Reds with ample funds to make a push for Diomande, who would be an exciting statement of intent for the defending, albeit stuttering, Premier League champions.
