Chelsea’s higherups are already said to have taken a decision out of the hands of Liam Rosenior.

New Chelsea boss Liam Rosenior has some big decisions to make over the coming weeks and months as he settles into the Stamford Bridge hotseat. Rosenior’s first priority will be to improve form on the pitch, with Chelsea having struggled with consistency all season under Enzo Maresca, even if they have remained in the top four race.

The Blues must remain in the top four race over the coming months if Rosenior wants to get off to a good start, but given he arrives in January, the new Chelsea boss also needs to think about recruitment and allowing certain players to leave.

Rosenior will not get the ultimate say on transfers, but he will get a say for the most part. But there is an exception or two, and according to ESPN, one decision that will be taken out of his hands is the one relating to Raheem Sterling.

Sterling was frozen out by Enzo Maresca - or perhaps by those above him - and he was ordered to train with the younger players, away from the first team, following his lacklustre loan spell with Arsenal.

The winger failed to land a summer move and has suffered through a tough few months behind the scenes, and he will be looking for a move this month.

There have been some speculation that Rosenior could re-evaluate such situations, but according to the report, Sterling’s exile is an ownership decision and it has already been decided that the winger does not have a Stamford Bridge future.

That means Sterling will need to move on this month if he wants to play first-team football in the second half of this season.

Rosenior on his aims for the club

Focusing on the aspects of Chelsea he can have a say in, new boss Rosenior made it clear that he does not want lower standards applied because of his lack of managerial experience.

“The potential for this club, and for this group is limitless. And I won't limit it,” he said in his first press conference. “I never limit the ambitions of my group. We've got world-class players, we've got players who have won the World Cup, this group won the Club World Cup only a matter of months ago. I watched that game and they were absolutely magnificent against PSG.

“We have lots of important fixtures coming up but I've said to the players to just focus on winning the next game. Always the next game. That's how you go on a run. With the talent that we have, the level of professionalism of the group, the intensity of which they've trained over the last two days, their engagement to something new, there are really, really positive signs here.

”You don't limit your ambitions. I'm not arrogant, but I believe I'm good at what I do. And in every job that I've worked, whether it was as an interim, as an assistant, as a head coach or a manager - relative to the group I've worked with - I've been successful. So, for me, I've always wanted to be at a huge club like this. But it's not about just being here, it's about being successful here.”
