Arsenal are facing up to the possibility of having to sell Gabriel Martinelli at the end of the season, with “very reliable sources” reporting that the Brazil international is considering his future.

Martinelli’s representatives are already putting plans in place for the 24-year-old to depart the club, according to a report from Indykaila.

Arsenal are said to be aware of the development.

’Lovely guy’ Martinelli’s diminishing Arsenal role

Martinelli has hit the headlines due to a clash with Liverpool defender Conor Bradley. While the latter was injured at the end of the Gunners’ scoreless draw with the Reds, the winger dropped the ball on the Northern Ireland international and then tried to manhandle him off the pitch, earning widespread condemnation.

Manager Mikel Arteta backed the player, who offered his apologies on social media, describing him as “an incredibly lovely guy”.

Although often restricted to a bit-part role in the Premier League this season, starting only six games, he has been a key figure in the Gunners’ perfect Champions League run, netting in all five matches in which he has been available.

Bumper fee heading Arsenal’s way?

Arsenal, though, are thought to be in the market for another wide attacking player, with Antoine Semenyo considered as a possibility while he was still at Bournemouth. Real Madrid winger Rodrygo has also been linked with the club.

Approaching the peak of his career, Martinelli is unlikely to settle for an even more peripheral role while the Gunners should be able to raise a substantial transfer fee from selling him.

His Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) sits at €46.4 million, and while Arsenal would likely seek to sell a figure greater than this, such a substantial return would be impressive for a player snapped up from Brazilian second-flight side Ituano in a €7.1m deal in 2019.

There has been interest from the Saudi Pro League, which could allow Arsenal to land a bumper transfer fee and sell a player who seems only to have a limited future in Arteta’s plans.
