Liverpool midfielder out injured for January

A new cruel twist in a series of setbacks for the player.

The young Liverpool midfielder has suffered multiple setbacks since breaking through in 2022.

The Spaniard, who is now 21, has seen his career derailed by multiple injuries and is now once again working his way back to full fitness but it is taking some time.

He had surgery over the summer on a recurring problem which was the latest setback in the young player’s career.

Once the new kid on the block and showing real promise, Bajcetic has understandably fallen down the pecking order, and there are a whole host of senior players and youngsters ahead of him now.

The Spaniard is very much fighting for his future at the club.

Bajcetic had played a lot of football last year, firstly with RB Salzburg and then with Las Palmas and after returning to Liverpool keen to push on this year, the hamstring issue that reared its head was another cruel twist in the player’s story.

The midfielder was introduced into the first team set up by Jurgen Klopp in January 2023 with other midfielders side-lined and Bajcetic went on to make 19 appearances, 11 of which were starts, for the senior side that season.

He went on to suffer an adductor tear in March which was the beginning of his problems.

He recovered from that but suffered a calf injury just six weeks into the 2023/24 season.

Troubles with his back arrived next, which ruled him out for a further seven months and he has now been put on an extensive recovery programmed by Liverpool’s medical department.

But the situation is clear – Stefan Bajcetic will yet again not feature for Liverpool’s first team for an entire season.

The Athletic reveals that: “Bajcetic had hoped to be back competing for a place in Liverpool’s first team before Christmas but has had to deal with a fresh hamstring issue that has thwarted his progress at Anfield and most likely put an end to any chance of leaving on loan in the January transfer window.”

“As Bajcetic is unlikely to be available until at least the end of the month, it means his only realistic chance of football this season will be with Liverpool’s under 21s, unless he can somehow force his way into the first-team picture.”

It’s been 613 days since Stefan Bajcetic last made a competitive appearance for the Reds, and it reminds us once again of the cruel reality of sport for many athletes.
