Ollie Watkins reckons‘powerful’ Chelsea target will end up signing for Real Madrid instead

Chelsea won’t be making any major signings this month, despite supporters holding out for exciting additions.

The January transfer window has been uncharacteristically quiet over the last couple of seasons, and this month looks to be no different.

Liam Rosenior wants additions at Chelsea, but you don’t always get what you want at Stamford Bridge.

He isn’t the only one, though, as Gary Neville believes Chelsea needs at least a couple of experienced signings during the January transfer window.

One player who won’t be joining this month due to the finances of a potential deal is Aston Villa attacker Morgan Rodgers, who is still wanted by Chelsea, despite signing a new deal.

Ollie Watkins can see Morgan Rogers signing for Real Madrid

Morgan Rogers has gone from strength to strength at Aston Villa this season.

His eight goals and seven assists for club and country show just how dangerous he can be, despite being just 23 years of age.

Ollie Watkins sees it firsthand at Aston Villa, and he even believes that the attacker will play for a club like Real Madrid at one point in his career (as per Sky Sports Premier League).

“He’s shown what he can do. He’s 22. I won’t be surprised if one day he ends up at Real Madrid or something like that.

“Yeah. Because he’s 22. What other 22-year-olds are doing what he’s doing in the Premier League? He’s big, powerful. You wouldn’t look at him and say, “Oh, he’s 22.” He plays his games like he is a mature player. So yeah, I can’t speak highly enough of him, to be honest.”

SCENARIO: You are one of Chelsea’s sporting directors and Todd Boehly has given you £60m to spend in January. Who are you signing?

Your potential shortlist could include:

How does Ollie Watkins compare to Chelsea’s attackers?

Chelsea’s attack was firing on all fronts towards the start of the season, but things have gone quiet in recent times.

Joao Pedro has fallen out of touch slightly, whilst Pedro Neto appears to have gone backwards with some of his performances recently.

Enzo Fernandez is the real bright spark, managing to add goals and assists to his game from midfield.

The stats comparison is quite fascinating.

Player Apps Goals Assists Total Involvements Minutes Per Involvement

Joao Pedro 28 10 4 14 151 mins

Enzo Fernandez 26 8 5 13 158 mins

Morgan Rogers 28 7 6 13 163 mins

Pedro Neto 26 9 3 12 161 mins

Cole Palmer 11 7 0 7 95 mins

Morgan Rogers is more of a Cole Palmer-type player, picking the ball up from deeper areas and making things happen with driving runs at the opposition’s defence.

It doesn’t seem feasible to have them both operating in the same side with how Chelsea operate with two wingers and an attacking midfielder, as he and Palmer take up that free roam role.
