Marc Guehi was seen having intense discussions with Crystal Palace supporters after his side were dumped out of the FA Cup by Macclesfield in one of the competition's greatest ever upsets on Saturday.

The FA Cup holders, who triumphed 1-0 over Manchester City in the final last summer, crashed out in the third round in astonishing circumstances as goals from Paul Dawson and Isaac Buckley-Ricketts earned the non-league outfit a historic 2-1 win over Oliver Glasner's side.

Although Yeremy Pino scored in the 90th minute to inspire some hope of a late Crystal Palace comeback, Macclesfield - who are 14th in the National League North - were able to hold on and produce the famous giant-killing.

In an attempt to calm the waters at full-time, Eagles captain Guehi headed over to the furious travelling fans who were perplexed at what they had just witnessed from their team at Moss Rose.

Footage shared to social media after the game showed Guehi, 25, being given an earful by several disgruntled supporters.

Guehi started the match alongside fellow England international Adam Wharton, while club record £35million signing Brennan Johnson came on at half-time for a Crystal Palace side that dwarfed Macclesfield financially.

The centre-back has entered the final six months of his Palace deal and is expected to leave Selhurst Park for free at the end of the season.

As Daily Mail Sport have reported this week, Manchester City remain in talks over a January deal for Guehi. with Palace willing to sell now for the right price rather than lose him for free in the summer when Liverpool, Arsenal and Bayern Munich would prefer to sign the 25-year-old defender.

Wayne Rooney was left on the verge of tears after watching his brother John, who is the manager of Macclesfield, mastermind the fairytale win.

After the match, the jubilant head coach said: 'I can't believe it, we never thought we would be in this position. We were incredible from the first minute. I thought we were deserved winners.

'I couldn't be any prouder of the lads. I couldn't have asked any more of them and you can see the joy in them.'

Meanwhile, Crystal Palace boss Glasner said: 'We give congratulations to Macclesfield for winning. We had no kind of quality today and I saw no one who could win a dribble. Then conceding set goals and timing in the header.

'If you can't create clear chances, it is a lack of quality that we have shown today. We deserved to lose.'

Asked why his side weren't at the races, he added: '[Lack of] quality. From everyone. Honestly, I have no explanation for what I have seen today and we can find excuses but you don't need tactics and a manager for these games.

'It's incredible, I am getting emotional to see my younger brother achieve this,' he said.

'He's not been long in management and to get through to the fourth round of the FA Cup and beat Crystal Palace, I am so proud of him.

'He did [look calm], I don't know how, it is such an achievement what he has done today, it is absolutely superb.'
