Chelsea play in the FA Cup today, but for anyone hoping to see a host of youngsters will be disappointed.
Their U21 team is playing right now, and features all their main players. It doesn’t look like anyone is being kicked up to the first team.
That makes sense – it’s Liam Rosenior’s first game in charge so of course he wants to play the strongest side possible. But it’s a little frustrating given this is pretty much our last chance of the season to see any youngsters.
Mheuka’s sensational scoring record goes on – and loan could follow
The Under 21s ended up eating Crystal Palace 4-1, with striker Shim Mheuka scoring a hattrick. We would have loved to see him in the first team today. His scoring record this season is just insane. He now has 20 goal contributions in 18 appearances this season.
According to Lloyd Canfield of the Sun, Mheuka is available for loan in January if the right offer comes in. And so he should be. This has already been something of a wasted season for him – we already knew he could dominate at U21 level, so this isn’t teaching us much, nor is he learning.
Let’s get him out to the Championship or League One ASAP – he’s ready to step into the senior game full time and we can’t wait to see what he does there.
In other news…
The team for tonight’s game is very interesting – it’s a great chance to rotate and rest players, but the new manager will want to get off to a strong start. We’ve put a predicted XI out here.
The new manager knows that the key for him is getting players to buy into what he wants from them – and he’s made it clear he knows this will be a challenge for him given his limited CV so far.
