'Lucky enough': Jamie Redknapp admits Chelsea have a player he would absolutely hate to play against

Chelsea may not have enjoyed the rub of the green over the past five games, but there have been a few positives to take away.

Liam Rosenior couldn’t have asked for a busier start to his time at Chelsea, with seven games to come before the month ends.

The Blues find themselves fighting on all fronts still. A semi-final first leg clash with Arsenal awaits this week, in what is a good opportunity for Rosenior to win some silverware.

It doesn’t stop there either, with a clash against David Luiz’s Pafos the following Wednesday for the return of the Champions League.

As is the case with any Chelsea manager, Liam Rosenior will be under immediate pressure to perform and get the likes of Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo and other big names on his side.

Liam Rosenior is unproven in the Premier League 😬

Derby – 12 games, 58% WIN

Hull City – 78 games, 35% WIN

Strasbourg – 63 games, 49% WIN

Are Chelsea making a mistake in bringing him over from Strasbourg?

Jamie Redknapp is a big fan of Marc Cucurella

Marc Cucurella is one of the players who needs to step up under Liam Rosenior. His performances have been solid, but it’s silly decisions like the red card incident against Fulham that have been holding the Blues back this season.

The fact that Cucurella was involved in a leadership meeting prior to Fulham about keeping standards high certainly isn’t a good look for the defender.

However, Jamie Redknapp likes what he sees from the defender, putting his rash decision-making at times to one side.

He spoke on the Sky Sports Premier League YouTube channel.

“Cucurella has been amazing. I really like him. You know, he’s one of those players if he played for your team, you would love him as a fan, you would love him. He’s won all the Chelsea fans over.”

Redknapp was then asked, “Would you hate to play against him?”

He responded.

“Yeah, lucky enough I didn’t play right wing, but he would be an absolute nuisance when he’s a pest, doesn’t he? Let’s be honest. You know, he kicks you, he fouls you, but very, very good, you know, and he’s done a great job at Chelsea.”

Moises Caicedo is definitely up there!

Jorrel Hato has a chance against Charlton Athletic

The biggest challenge for Cucurella isn’t just fitting into the new system; it’s the competition from Jorrel Hato.

Hato signed for £36m from Ajax, but has struggled to enjoy regular minutes at Chelsea, with Marc Cucurella being the preferred left-back under Enzo Maresca.

But Hato did shine when given the opportunity in the 1-1 draw with Manchester City recently.

However, with Cucurella suspended for the FA Cup tie against Charlton Athletic, Hato is expected to start.

If he impresses Rosenior with his performance, there’s every chance that the new Chelsea boss may repay his faith for the Carabao Cup semi-final against Arsenal.
