We're approaching a third of the way into the January transfer window and Arsenal are yet to announce any incomings or sales.

The Gunners remain in the enviable position of leading both the Premier League and Champions League tables. That is in spite of a disappointing 0-0 draw at home against Liverpool on Thursday, which saw Mikel Arteta's side extend their lead over second-placed Manchester City to six points.

However, there has also been some exciting news from N5 this week. The club have agreed a new five-year contract with star man Bukayo Saka. Arteta is now hoping to lock down an additional four players with fresh deals.

He's also made it clear the club could be active in the transfer market if the right opportunities arise, as football.london now examines two of the latest transfer rumours involving the north Londoners.

Transfer hijack threat

Manchester United are reportedly entering the race to sign Arsenal target Igor Tyjon from Blackburn Rovers. The 17-year-old forward has turned heads at Rovers, making his U21s debut at just 15 and becoming a regular feature in senior matchday squads in recent seasons.

It's reported that the Gunners have had several bids around £1million rejected by Blackburn for the player, though the Championship club are beginning to accept his future may lie elsewhere following his refusal to sign a professional contract.

However, The Sun claims Arsenal will now have to ward off competition from rivals United in their pursuit of the England youth team star. There's a chance United could swoop in and hijack the transfer, having already lured away former Gunners academy player Chido Obi in 2024.

Race against Man City

Despite Marc Guehi's nearly-move to Liverpool last summer, Manchester City and Arsenal are now reportedly in the running for the Crystal Palace captain. According to Fabrizio Romano, City are confident they can strike a deal with Palace this month for Guehi, who has no plans to renew his contract with the club.

City are keen to fend off their rivals by offering a fee now instead of waiting to sign him on a free transfer in the summer, especially given their current injury woes. This could give them an edge over Arsenal, despite Romano stating that Arteta in particular is a big admirer of the player.

In contrast to City, Romano reports that Arsenal have been calling over a potential deal in the summer, rather than this month. While Arteta would undoubtedly like to add Guehi to his already impressive defensive line-up, it remains to be seen how the Palace player would replace the likes of William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhaes and Riccardo Calafiori, who have all had standout seasons.
