Middlesbrough sign Chelsea midfielder on four-and-a-half-year deal

Middlesbrough have announced the signing of Leo Castledine from Premier League side Chelsea.

The 20-year-old England youth international joined Chelsea in 2020, where he spent the majority of his time in the academy sides. He featured off the bench in the EFL Cup semi-final for his senior debut.

He spent last season on loan at Shrewsbury Town, where he made 26 appearances overall. He had been on loan at Huddersfield this season, where he impressed by netting 12 goals in 27 games before being recalled.

Speaking to the club website regarding the news, he said: "I’m absolutely over the moon to join what is a massive, massive club.

"It’s a really big step for me in my career and I’m very excited to be here. There’s always been trust in young players at this club if they can perform, and I want to perform at my highest level.

"I’m fit, healthy and I’ve been playing well, so I feel ready to go. I want to help the team as much as I can from the first day."

He has signed a four-and-a-half-year deal.
