Liverpool are facing serious competition from clubs within the Premier League and from across Europe for one of their top targets

Liverpool are facing a tough battle to sign Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi with several of Europe’s top clubs circling for the England international.

Missing out on a potential deal for Guehi could be a painful one to take for the Anfield side. They had agreed a £35m fee with Palace back in the summer and had a medical arranged on deadline day.

Liverpool have been ready to wait to sign Guehi on a free transfer in their summer but their hand could now be forced by City.

Sky Spots News report that Guehi has not decided if he will leave Palace this month with Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Real Madrid all retaining a long-term interest in the England man.

They also claim that Palace believe Liverpool could make a bid and try to sign him this month after their £35m deal collapsed in the summer. It is also noted that the Eagles are expected to consider cut-price offers for Guehi, as he could move for even less than the £35m he was valued at in the summer.

He is out of contract at Selhurst Park in six months and does not intend to pen fresh terms.

Speaking about Guehi’s future, Glasner said earlier in the week: "I think Marc will stay but if Marc says 'I want to leave', and a club pays massive money - with five months left of a contract - every player will leave if you're playing for a club like Crystal Palace.

"I'm pretty sure our chairman will ask for a very high price for him and then let's see. I don't know if Marc wants to leave."

Asked if he was concerned about the captain leaving in January, Glasner said: "No more worried than in the summer because the summer would've been the same.

"If the offer would have been high enough that the club is fine with it and if Marc wanted to go, he wouldn't be a Crystal Palace player anymore.

"I think last January would've been the same and the year before would be the same. Every single player has a price where the club will sell him when you're Crystal Palace and maybe because we're not the end of the food chain in football.

"For me it was a little bit surprising what was made out of it, because it's the exactly same situation as it was in the summer.

"Right now, when I see him playing, when I see him training, when I see his commitment and when we are talking quite often together, then I think the fans can be really be calm but you never know what will happen in football."
