The Addicks exited the Emirates FA Cup on Saturday night after a late flurry of goals saw Chelsea run out 5-1 victors at The Valley.
Nathan Jones' started brightly in the opening stages of the third-round tie. The game was halted for a brief period, whilst the medical team attended to an emergency in the crowd.
After play resumed, Chelsea enjoyed a spell of possession in the first half but made nothing of their work. Will Mannion was called into action on 33 minutes as Josh Acheampong had a strike at goal.
On the stroke of half-time, the visitors opened the scoring through Jorrel Hato, who produced a neat strike that nestled into the top corner.
Chelsea doubled their advantage just after half-time, as Tosin Adarabioyo headed the ball home from Facundo Buonanotte's delivery.
The Addicks piled the pressure on Chelsea and their persistence soon payed off. Filip Jörgensen produced a fine save to deny Lloyd Jones from scoring, but Miles Leaburn was there to tap in the rebound in front of the Covered End to halve the deficit.
Chelsea added a third through Marc Guiu a few minutes later after an initial save from Mannion fell right to the striker’s feet.
Mannion produced a series of fine saves to deny Estêvão from getting on the scoresheet, before Chelsea added another two goals in stoppage time.
First, Pedro Neto made it four with a strike from the left-hand side before Enzo Fernández converted Chelsea's fifth from the penalty spot.
