Why Jason Kidd ejected vs. Bulls revealed: Mavs assistant reacts

Jason Kidd was ejected during the Mavericks' loss to the Bulls after arguing with referee Scott Foster over a denied goaltending challenge and directing profanity at an official, resulting in two technical fouls.

Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd was ejected midway through the first quarter of Saturday night's 125–107 loss to the Chicago Bulls after a heated exchange with referee Scott Foster.

The incident stemmed from a disputed goaltending call on Max Christie with 5:44 remaining in the opening quarter.

Kidd attempted to challenge the ruling, and the Mavericks called a timeout to initiate the review.

However, officials ruled that the challenge request came too late, as the Bulls had already inbounded the ball.

Kidd continued to argue the decision with Foster, which resulted in two technical fouls and an immediate ejection.

Assistant coach Frank Vogel took over coaching duties for the remainder of the game. Afterward, Vogel explained the situation from the team's perspective.

"We were trying to challenge a play," Vogel said after the game. "They inbounded the ball before we could, we thought we had the right to challenge. He and Scott got into it, and it led to the ejection."

The NBA pool report explained that the Mavs were not allowed to challenge a goaltending call because the replay window closed once the ball was inbounded, even though a timeout was granted afterward.

Kidd was then ejected after directing profanity at an official on two separate occasions, resulting in two technical fouls.
