One out on loan Chelsea star is hoping to convince new boss Liam Rosenior from afar.
A Chelsea player Enzo Maresca loaned out is hoping to convince Liam Rosenior that he is worthy of a future at Stamford Bridge. Rosenior is now in charge at Stamford Bridge, hoping to guide Chelsea into next season’s Champions League.
The Blues have a lot of work to do, and Rosenior is likely to be a busy man as he looks to assess his squad and make key decisions before the end of the January transfer window, though much of the transfer decisions seem to be made by the board and their staff at Stamford Bridge these days.
In the meantime, some of Chelsea’s out on loan players, players who Maresca was not convinced by, will be hoping to impress now that they have the chance to gain a fresh perspective with Rosenior at the helm.
Omari Kellyman is one of those players, with the 20-year-old currently on loan at Cardiff City in League One. Kellyman arrived on a £20million deal from Aston Villa, though it was heavily speculated at the time that the deal was inflated, along with a sale to Villa, with the two sides aiming to help each other’s PSR situations.
Kellyman struggled with injury after his arrival, with hamstring issues plaguing his early days at Stamford Bridge. But he has had a fresh opportunity this season in the form of a loan deal to Cardiff.
Since making the move, the winger, who can also play as a 10, has two goals in 16 League One games, but his performances have been impressive for the most part.
Importantly, he has also managed to stay fit, playing a key role in Cardiff being top of the league, three points ahead with a game in-hand and looking strong favourites to bounce straight back up to the Championship.
Kellyman hoping to convince Rosenior
Speaking ahead of Cardiff’s clash with Leyton Orient on Saturday, Kellyman said: “I have worked with the new Chelsea manager in the past when I was very young.
"I've seen him in Derby as well. I think he was eating lunch with his wife and I had a short conversation with him. So yeah, the relationship I had was alright. We've seen what he did at Strasbourg, so I think it's great for the club."
He added: “My focus is here with Cardiff City. We're top of the league so we can look at the rest of the season positively. The point of a loan is to go out and showcase what you're capable of and so I think coming here has been great for me.
"I'm delighted with how things are going and I've definitely had a positive few weeks finding that next gear. But I wouldn't say I've found my best form. I would say there's probably still maybe two or three more gears to go.
"My first game I was a rude awakening. My first touch and somebody's come in two-footed at me. But honestly, that was probably the best way it could've happened. I knew that's what I was in for but I've been part of physical games growing up so you just learn how to cope."
